What happens once we join?

10 steps of getting your Buy1GIVE1 giving going.

  1. You receive a welcome emails and a membership pack (posted by airmail). Make sure emails from Buy1GIVE1 are whitelisted.
  2. You can log in on our site and explore the members area. You can also download the Business Members logo and web banners to add to your website, email signature and marketing materials. Doing that is very important to create so much more ‘attraction’ in your business,
  3. You can also join Buy1GIVE1 Global Giving Village (special networking site) and start getting connected with others.
  4. Choose a Worthy Cause you want to give to from your specific product or service (you can give from many products or services in different ways). This cause can be from the list on Buy1GIVE1 website OR the organization of your choice (you need to let us know the details of the organisation on our site)
  5. Choose the $ value you give from each of the products/services.
  6. Come up with your message of giving.
  7. Start giving regularly through Buy1GIVE1 website OR send your contribution directly to the charity organisation of your choice and send the report to Buy1GIVE1.
  8. Connect with the story and the cause. You can communicate with them, read their information and ask questions. You can even visit the Worthy Cause Partner of your choice.
  9. Start sharing the message with your customers, team members and others so that we can all enjoy giving and caring for each other.
  10. After the 12 months of your regular contribution, you can become a ‘Certified Contributor’ and receive a special logo.

How can I start contributing to a cause through Buy1GIVE1?


 
  • After you have applied to be a Buy1GIVE1 Business Member (membership is US $1/day), you will get the opportunity to select a worthy cause partner project from our list.
  • You then choose which of your products or services you wish to apply Buy1GIVE1 to.
  • You then tell us how much you would like to contribute for every business transaction of your selected product or service via a simple web form.
  • We recommend that to get started, you keep things simple. Apply Buy1GIVE1 to one of your products or services and expand things later.
  • Our Worthy Cause Partner list shows a wide range of projects that you can support. Amounts range from as little as US 1c.
  • For example, it only costs currently US$ 25c to feed a child with one of our Buy1GIVE1 worthy cause partners who's been studied by Harvard graduates because of their super efficient time management systems.
  • After you choose your Worthy Cause Partner project (via a simple web screen), you record your last months sales. This amount is then used to calculate your contribution for the month. For example: If you chose to partner with midday meals it would cost you US 25c. If your sales for the preceding month on your Buy1GIVE1 product was 2500 units, your contribution amount would be 0.25 * 2500 = USD $625.
  • Each month you login to our site and record and contribute for your previous months sales for your Buy1GIVE1 product(s). This takes literally two minutes each month per product. This information is totally confidential and never made public.
  • If you are partnering with a Buy1GIVE1 worthy cause partners, you can contribute via our secure server using your credit card.
  • 100% of your contribution amount goes to your Worthy Cause Partner less any standard bank transfer fees.
  • We offer certified Buy1GIVE1 memberships for those businesses that want to show to their customers that they are a certified contributing Buy1GIVE1 member. In this case you are entitled to use our certified logo rather than our standard logo. If you contribute through Buy1Give1 then certification is a simple application process and we do the rest for you.

 

How does Buy1GIVE1 make sure the Worthy Causes listed are legitimate?

Great question! Please explore the Worthy Cause questions page to find out about the process of new causes joining Buy1GIVE1.

We do what we can to make sure all Causes listed meet the criteria. And more importantly, the more effective, integral and giving the organisations, the more support and attraction they create. So, all Buy1GIVE1 Worthy Causes are continuously encouraged to improve their operations through working with Buy1GIVE1.

How can we support Buy1GIVE1 transaction-based giving to spread?

You can add our logo, banners and message on your website, newsletters and email signature to share the message of Buy1GIVE1 giving.

How can I help another cause become a Buy1GIVE1 Worthy Cause Partner?

Once you become part of the Buy1GIVE1 Global Village, you are entitled to recommend your favourite charity to Buy1GIVE1.

Buy1GIVE1 has criteria for bringing new Worthy Cause Partners on board. Visit the Give/Worthy Cause page to find out more.

Buy1GIVE1 works with recommended causes who meet the criteria. So your recommendation will support the process to become easier for them. This process may take some time and they may not always be accepted, as it is important for us to ensure the cause is suitable for this type of partnership with Buy1GIVE1 Businesses. If we have to say no at the point of time, we will keep them on the list so that we could support them to come on board in the future when they can meet the criteria.

What payment methods do you currently accept?

We currently accept Visa, Mastercard and AMEX throughout our site. We also allow you to make payment in some cases using PayPal. Products like books can be also paid using your regular PayPal account.

I am running a project that may be a one-off project. Can I use Buy1GIVE1 with this event?

Yes of course. When you come to contribute you can specifiy if the contribution will be regular or one-off. Only regular payments can be accepted for certified membership.

I don't have regular sales. Can I still be a Buy1GIVE1 member?

Yes of course. You only make contributions for sales made. You would simply record a zero amount for the month.

What is certified membership?

Certified members are those members who are contributing to worthy causes on a regular basis based on their periodic sales figures. We will send members details about certification once they have joined. We only certify members when we can verify their contribution details. Certified members have the right to use the certified Buy1Give1 logo instead of the standard logo.

Can I recommend a Worthy Cause Partner to Buy1GIVE1?

Yes of course. Just send us an email with the details or contact the worthy cause so they can contact us. Membership for Worthy Causes with Buy1GIVE1 is free but we do have admin costs that we need to be covered so we charge new worthy cause's a one-off fee. However, you can sponsor a worthy cause to be part of Buy1GIVE1 so that there are no costs involved for them. Email us for further details about sponsorship.

As a Buy1GIVE1 Business Member can I work with a worthy cause that is not part of Buy1Give1?

Yes you can. You can support any worthy cause you like. Some businesses have existing relationships with worthy causes and want to continue these. We make this easy for you to do. The details are sorted out after you have applied.

Where is Buy1GIVE1 located?

Buy1GIVE1 was launched in Australia and is a registered company (Buy1GIVE1 Pte Ltd) now based in Singapore. 

How do I know the worthy cause gets the money?

Simple - they can provide you with a receipt if you require this.

Who am I giving money too?

Because B1G1 partners you with the best Worthy Cause Partner that gives you the best 'story' for your business then the money goes directly to this organisation. They will purchase the goods and gift them to the appropriate people as part of their standard activities. The funds you donate are passed automatically and securely through Buy1GIVE1 so there's no additional load on your administrative functions.

Do I need to put my prices up to cover the contribution?

No. And here's why.

In many businesses, money is being spent on ineffective marketing and advertising campaigns, money that in some way adds to the sales price of your products or service - a cost of doing business if you will.

The most effective campaigns are ones where people tell other people. When you have a good story to tell your customers and potential customers spread the message for you. B1G1 gives you powerful stories to tell making your marketing more effective thus driving sales and profits. So no, you don't need to increase prices.

Most businesses have a specific percentage that they reinvest into their marketing budget from each sale. This may be 5% or more. Whatever the amount, because B1G1 gives you effective marketing return on your dollar invested, the cost for the B1G1 contribution can come out of your marketing budget. 

Why do I need 'Buy1Give1'? Couldn't I just do it myself?

Well, it depends what you mean by that. Could you match a charity yourself and do transaction-based giving? Of course. Many of our Buy1GIVE1 Businesses have done that or they were already giving before they became a Buy1GIVE1 Business.

So yes, of course you could do it yourself. Buy1GIVE1 lets you do it so much more effectively, smoothly and easily. Plus you get the great additional 'pull' of the Buy1GIVE1 brand working for you in so many ways; in the media, directly on the Buy1GIVE1 site, directly from the Buy1GIVE1 newsletters and from Buy1GIVE1 presentations around the world.

However, the most importatn part of Buy1GIVE1 giving is that you are actively adding to the global movement of effective giving. By working with other businesses who also value the importance of giving back, you are able to effectively create awareness in the public. I want to contribute to my own cause - What is the process?

If you already support a charity organisation, you can continue giving to the same cause and still be part of Buy1GIVE1.

 The process is simple:

  1. Simply register your worthy cause details. Click here to go there now.
  2. Decide how much per sales transaction you want to contribute to the cause.
  3. Contact your cause to find out what worthy cause activity this amount will support
  4. Report your contribution details to B1G1 to make your giving active. 
Will I be able to receive tax benefits from my contribution?

In order to receive tax benefits for your contributions to your Worthy Cause Partner, normally the organisation needs to be registered in the country where your business files its tax return. However, if you are a Singapore registered company you can make your contributions tax free. 

It is best to check with your accountant on this matter if you are located in other countries.

Each Worthy Cause Partner has a profile page, and there is a field that lists which countries they are registered in, so businesses can receive tax benefits from their contributions. If there is not enough information, you can contact the Worthy Cause Partner directly (you will need to be logged in to see their email and phone contact details).

Can I get a receipt for my contribution?

Your Worthy Cause Partner will normally automatically issue you a receipt for your contribution once they receive the funds. Contact them directlty if you do not receive this.

Please note : It may take up to six weeks for you to receive a receipt from the worthy cause.

Do I have to partner all my business sales with a worthy cause?

Buy1GIVE1 works with you, connecting each and every business sale for a SPECIFIC product or service with a worthy cause project. 

However, if you have multiple business products or services, you can choose which you apply Buy1GIVE1 giving to. You only need to do it on the ones that you choose.

Once you choose a specific product or service to connect to Buy1GIVE1 giving, in order to maintain the integrity of what you do, then 100% of the sales for that specified product should be recorded and the contributions paid for.

Many businesses start off with a single product or service and then expand as they gain more understanding of how Buy1GIVE1 giving can work for them. Some businesses use Buy1GIVE1 giving for special events that are not always run regularly. Buy1GIVE1 giving is as flexible as you want to make it.

Does Buy1GIVE1 vouch for its Worthy Cause Partners?

Each of our Worthy Cause Partners are independently run organisations spread around the globe. Before we accept a new Worthy Cause to join us, we conduct our own due dilligence to ensure that top quality organisations are listed with us. However, we cannot directly vouch for a third-party organisation.

As part of our extended services we do offer businesses the opportunity to create a service agreement with a Worthy Cause. In this agreement you can stipulate reporting and audit requirements that need to be met as part of your contribition arrangement with them.

Can I pay my contribution directly to the worthy cause?

We make it easy for you to contribute, so you can pay you contributions online using a credit card.

You can, however, pay your contributions directly to your Worthy Cause Partner if you wish. We can provide you with the worthy cause's banking details to do this.

If your contribution amounts are likely to be substantial, we recommend that you pay the worthy cause directly, so that money is not lost in banking fees. 

If you pay directly, you just need to log the payment details on the Buy1GIVE1 website against your account.

How much of my contribution is paid to the worthy cause?

100% of what you contribute (less standard bank transfer fees) is paid directly to the Worthy Cause Partner that you select.

Buy1GIVE1, unlike most organisations that raise funds for worthy causes, DOES NOT take a percentage. We pass on all of what you contribute so that you contribution is 100% effective.

What if I cannot find a suitable project on your list?

If you look through our list and cannot find a suitable project to partner your product sales with, then we can look after you.

You have three options :

  1. Find your own partner and contribute directly while letting us know when and how much you contribute.
  2. Invite a worthy cause that you like to join us by introducing them to what we are doing.
  3. Let us find you a partner using our paid partnering service, which is explained below.

We take your partnering needs and find an appropriate partner that meets your requirements.

In the unlikely situation that we are not able to find a suitable match then you will not be charged. You pay after you have been successfully partnered with a cause.

How often do I need to contribute?

When you partner with a Worthy Cause Partner's project, you have two choices regarding the frequency of your giving. These choices are based on the type of product/service that you are offering in your business (this is on the final partnering page):

  1. Select your product as an event based sales - this allows you to contribute as and when you receive income from a one-off event or promotions.
  2. Select your product as a regular sale - this then allows you to choose the period you wish to contribute for. Most businesses contribute monthly but you could choose bi-monthly or quarterly.

You are always in control of your contributions schedule. However, we do recommend that you do your contributions on a regular basis so that you can keep things organised and up-to-date.  

Also remember that it is a condition of your membership that you contribute at least every three months. 

How can I find out more about a potential partner?

Every Worthy Cause Partner has a profile page.

Look up their profile details and you can find out more. 

If you are logged in you will also be shown the Worthy Cause Partner's email and phone number, so you can contact them directly to find out more about them or their projects.

Can I get any paperwork for the partnering?

We offer additional services.

One of the additional services we offer is the creation of a service agreement between a Business and its respective Worthy Cause Partner.

Do I give a certain amount or a set percentage?

Each worthy cause has a list of projects that they support.

Each project has a US dollar cost associated with it that ranges from as little as USD 1c upwards. 

You pay the cost of the project from each product/service sale.

So for example: If you are a restaurant, you will select a food-related project, and you will find that it costs, say, USD 25c to feed a child a meal. If you select this project, then for every meal you sell you pay USD 25c to that worthy cause to feed a child.

If you want to pay more (or less) for each transaction, you can look for a different project. Often the same project is 'bundled' in different ways. For example, the same organisation can offer to feed a child a meal, feed a child for a week and feed a child for a month - so look for other options that suit your financial needs.

Can I contact a Worthy Cause Partner myself?

Yes, of course you can contact a Worthy Cause Partner yourself.

Each Worthy Cause Partner has their own online profile page.

To see their contact details, you will need to be logged in to our website.

Worthy Cause's however as part of their arrangement with us only do Buy1GIVE1 contributing in partnership with us. 

How do I know my money will be used effectively?

When we partner with a worthy cause, we select partners that are making an effective difference and have an effective track record. If we are partnering with smaller Worthy Cause Partners then we normally work with this partner through a larger Worthy Cause Partner who directly supports them and ensures that they are effective.

We also bend towards selecting worthy causes that empower people in effective ways.

There is also an opportunity for you to enter into a more formal arrangement with a Worthy Cause Partner. We can create a service agreement between you and your partner that lays down any specific conditions that you need. This is an additional paid service that we offer. You can of course do your own research about any of our Worthy Cause Partners. If you are logged in you can view a profile page for each organisation that displays their web and contact details. 

What is a Worthy Cause Partner?

We are working with a number of organisations to help you do your giving. We call these organisations our Worthy Cause Partners. They provide the various projects listed in our website.

A Worthy Cause Partner can be a charity, NGO, social enterprise or community group.

Through Buy1GIVE1, you can partner your product sales to a specific worthy cause project. When you contribute, your contribution is used by your Worthy Cause Partner to fund the project you selected.

What payment methods do you currently accept?

PayPal is available for some purchases on our site.

Can I recommend a Worthy Cause Partner to Buy1GIVE1?

Yes, of course.

Just send us an email with the details, or simply ask the worthy cause to contact us.

Membership for worthy causes with Buy1GIVE1 is free. But we do have admin costs that needs to be covered. So we charge new worthy causes a one-off admin fee. This is only charged once they receive their first contribution payment from us - there is no upfront fee. However, you can sponsor a worthy cause to be part of Buy1GIVE1 so that there are no costs involved for them.

If you would like to partner through Buy1GIVE1 with your suggested Worthy Cause Partner, this may take a little time. We first have to contact them, they need to agree to join us, then we need to verify their organisation. We suggest that you do your initial contributions directly to them. Then when they come onboard later on, you can do your contribution to them through us. 

Can I continue to support an existing cause I have already given to?

Yes, of course you can.

You can support any worthy cause you like. 

If you have an existing relationship with a worthy cause (and they are not currently one of our partners), then simply tell us their details, so we can record them against your account. Then you can work with this partner directly while continuing to enjoy the other benefits of working with Buy1GIVE1.

You can of course recommend your partner to join Buy1GIVE1, making it better for them (they have the opportunity to receive more funds) and easier for you because you can use our automated services.

Payments to your Worthy Cause Partners

We do not take payments for external worthy causes. You will need to make your own arrangements for this.

However, we do need to register the amount you have contributed through your account.

 

Can you help me find a Worthy Cause Partner?

Yes, we can.

If you use our premium paid services, we can do everything for you, helping you find the perfect fit partner that meets your specific requirements.

We do have an account upgrade option that allows you to receive these extra services. If you upgrade your account within the first month of your membership, we can take your current account fees into account which will reduce your upgrade investment.

If you are not 100% happy with the results, there is no charge.
