It's really interesting how things come into your life in groups isn't it. You know what I mean - this happens and then some related thing happens and we go 'what a coincidence' or 'dah dah dah dah' in that scary movie tone of voice.
Well, today that sequence happened to me. Just 24 hours agoI got to meet with the wonderful Jack Sim. Jack is the founder of the WTO - no, not the World Trade Organisation but the World TOILET Organisation .
Jack is amazing - his life is toilets (or more correctly the lack of them and the impact that has on our world). Typically he's doing media interviews 3 times a week and although he has fun in those interviews, there's the serious side of it - like, for example, the fact that a child dies every 20 seconds because of a lack of proper sanitation.
And then this morning I get a blog from Everywun and I see the article headed 'Don't pee on the toilet seat'. Here's the article (yes, written by a male) in full:
When I was in elementary school, I used to pee on toilet seats... a lot!
My logic was simple: Lifting up the seat took more time than I was willing to spend. Sure, other people would have to deal with the pee later, but I didn't mind. Once I left the bathroom, the mess was out of sight and out of mind. In my mind, it may as well not have happened!
Sometime, years later, I decided that it was time to grow up. So I started lifting up seats. At first it wasn't natural or fun. But I continued doing it anyway because I figured that if I didn't want my toilet seat peed on, I figured, I probably shouldn't pee on another's seat.
Much to my surprise, two amazing things happened when I reformed my ways: First, I learned that it wasn't inconvenient to lift up the seat. Second, by taking a caring action, I found that I actually cared even more... and enjoyed the way I felt!
So here's the tip: If you want make a better life for yourself and a better world for others, do good things even when you don't feel like doing them. The simple act of doing them will make you feel like doing even more because you'll experience all of the happiness and karmic benefits that come with doing good!
That last piece is neat isn't it. And right in line with how we see (and say) things at B1G1 [Buy1GIVE1] : "sharing the JOY of giving, every second, every day and in every way."
And of course, B1G1 has systems and processes to make that happen for you in your business. So it's worthwhile checking out.
Final thought - do lift the seat (and put it down again!) not just because it's good to do; do it because it reminds you to be grateful for something as seemingly simple as 'I actually have a toilet'. And maybe you can help Jack Sim on his mission to change that statistic we mentioned earlier too.
