What Giving is Really About

“Giving is just a form of gratitude. We should be grateful for what we have. I give because I’m grateful for who I am and what I do. It shows investors who do have the money that if you do give, more will come your way. But it’s not about getting back—it’s about giving.

Whilst I believe you receive joy from making a meaningful contribution in the very moments we have given, there have been some tangible benefits for Sunsplash Homes in return for the gratitude that the business naturally emanates.” Marcus Edwards, Director, Sunsplash Homes

Marcus tells me that opportunity through clients, developers and suppliers just started to flow because of their commitment made to the homeless through their Buy1GIVE1 worthy cause partner; Habitat for Humanity in India.

Here is that difference—in his own words:

Marcus Edwards Sunplash

“As soon as people heard about what we were doing, it was like ‘it sounds great, let’s go ahead’. And the people who started showing up; I really resonated with them.

The people we work with will tell their friends. We have now attracted developers of properties that are eco-friendly which is great because we can tell people how we are contributing and giving back as well as building homes that are eco-friendly.

Being with Buy1GIVE1 has generated more business and increased the amount of developers that I can work with. I’ve increased my network.”

I have some questions:

What would make the difference that would enable us to demonstrate joy and gratitude through our work? Is it business networking, harmony in our personal lives, self-worth, business support and effective planning, great employees and colleagues? Something else?

If we were to remove the greatest barrier to gratitute, what would that barrier be?
