A short description about your blog

Over the last four weeks, there was no blog entry on this site.

Did B1G1 team loose the energy and momentum? - Absolutely NOT!

We were touring in Australia and New Zealand covering 7 cities in total. And our main blogger and social media writer Paul Dunn was the centre of all these events this time.

Paul's fun, engaging, inspiring and insightful talk, "WOW - Standing out in 2010" created great energy and interest toward B1G1 in every city we visited. Some of the events attracted so many more people than we expected that we did not even have enough seats (RYDGES in Auckland for example ran out of all spare chairs and we had to 'steal' more from the restaurants!).  Many people were standing at the back of the room enjoying every moment of the evening until the very end.

If you are one of them who missed the opportunity to be there, make sure to watch out for the next round because we had so many people saying that the event was full of amazing values that they could not believe it was free (thanks to the generous sponsors for each of the event) and some people even came from other cities driving hours to get there.

phoneInteresting questions often come up in life in seemingly unrelated situations.

For example, last night I was at a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) briefing listening to a CSR specialist talking about the importance of harnessing the power of Social Media. He spoke about how, via cyberspace, we can speak out powerfully about what is happening in our world. "We can even impact corporations that are not being socially responsible," he said.

The facts (or often rumours) of how things are produced by exploiting others are revealed by people (for example, the factory workers in China) who now have the power to communicate their thoughts and feelings through the ether like never before.

So, how is this relevant to you and me?

A habit of giving

Since I started doing more daily exercises and physical activities, the life has become so much more enjoyable, meaningful and abundant.

I had felt the need for more physical activities before but never done anything consistently since I had my first child. Life can be full of excuses with family/business commitment and demanding everyday chores. But this time, I actually took action.

village.jpgIf you have read the book 'ONE - Sharing the joy of giving' from Buy1GIVE1, you know the story of 'The village'. Well, we now have a Global Giving Village opening up for you to participate in.

'Village' is a symbol of a real community full of giving and caring. This Global Village is the same: we connect, we communicate and we give to each other. But more importantly and excitingly, we get to build a real village together through our activities here and watch it all happen.

Visit the Global Village today (www.b1g1village.com ) and join us as one of the very first members. You will be given a privilege link to join a special group soon if you are already a Global Village Citizen, B1G1 Business or B1G1 Worthy Cause.

A millionaire made easy through giving!

There is an old historical Japanese tale about giving and it shows how we can receive the most extraordinary gifts when we're giving and appreciative of what we already have.

Here is the story.

Once upon a time, there was a poor young farmer. Everything he did in his life never seemed to produce any wealth for him. He was totally broke with no money, no family and no food. So one night he sneaked

A new innovation is transforming many lives in the villages of India by bringing light were there used to be darkness.

The New York Times published an article titled, “Husk Power for India”. Electricity, which is prevalent in the lives of many in developed nations, is a pure luxury in remote areas of developing ones. What was once fed to animals now is used to generate electricity – rice husks.

Growing up in rural Bihar State, Manoj Sinha knew what it was like to sit in the dark. Being an engineer with Intel Corporation he had all the skills to make a life long idea come alive. He

Paul Dunn from Buy1GIVE1 got rated as the number 1 presenter at the recent CSR forum in Singapore. Business people around the world came to this recent conference to explore the latest CSR topics.

He was also interviewed by a reporter (Alicia Wong) from 'Today' newspaper after his presentation.

Buy1GIVE1 transaction-based giving is now being recognised as one effective way to create more synergy and energy in organisations.

Bees are all giving by nature. They give naturally to maintain the world of abundance. But each bee actually takes different role in maintaining the colony as well as the flower garden. So, I thought human beings are the same. We are all naturally giving and caring. But we tend to express our giving in different ways. So, here it is a 'giving bee' chart where you can find your bee type. Watch out for the following bee analysis! The more you share your value as a givine bee, the more we can do together make a difference.

What is your givn-bee type?

Giving holiday

The Christmas season is coming.

Everyone is thinking of the Christmas holiday.

So, what do we have in mind for the Christmas holiday?

At Buy1GIVE1, we have suggested an interesting project as a part of our team privileges. We can all choose to take a few days 'giving' holiday. Normally employment benefits focus on how much you get paid or how many day holiday you are getting. And whether you get 3 more days or less would not make a massive impact to your feeling about your work, would it?

We had a meeting about this holiday this week. Everyone is actively participating in this and thinking

Who Likes Being a ‘Consumer’?
Very few of us might like to be called a ‘consumer’.

But it is true that we all buy things in life. We use things and throw things away. So, we are consumers and we practice ‘consumerism’. And maybe if we just keep consuming and consuming, there will soon be nothing left. Or maybe the world would just create more and more at the same speed as our consumption? Who knows?

True Gift Hamper

As a part of the special privilege of being part of the Buy1GIVE1 community, we always get to meet and speak with some incredible people. One of this month’s special gifts for us was meeting the Vice-President of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) - the company that dominates the news industry in Singapore.

We had a thirty-minute meeting scheduled which ended up becoming a two-and-a-half-hour meeting as he decided to cancel everything in the afternoon to spend more time with us to share his passion for giving. His name is Peter Khoo. He’s humble,

I believe a management expert once said, ‘What you can measure you can manage’. And then a friend of mine added, ‘But measuring what really matters is the real key!’ And then I read that ‘what get’s measured gets done’.

So today, out of curiosity, I decided to measure my ‘Thank yous’ and found out that I have already said the phrase 36 times and I actually wrote it 23 times.

Wow. It must be the most common phrase

Why do we always talk about ‘sharing the joy of giving’? Isn’t B1G1 a new form of 'effective giving' program? Isn’t it about raising the profile of the company and creating socially responsible image while making sure the money we donate is effectively used? What is it to do with joy?

Well, these are actually some of the end results that our giving and sharing can lead us to. These just happen. But they shouldn’t be the sole intention of our giving if we want to share the inspiration with others long-term. A ‘great’ action may not necessarily lead us to the most desired outcome to really

One of the biggest pieces of luck this week (there is so much magic happening right now), was meeting with the general manager of one of the biggest ratail chains in Australia at their Sydney headquarters to discuss how we could work together.

To be honest, before meeting this wonderful gentleman at the remarkable new office in the outskirt of Sydney, I had a feeling that working with a company this big may become a little limiting factor for us.

We have many interesting ideas, and in some ways, our vision could be perceived as a little too idealistic for some. I was very curious to see what

Too hard or easy?

As a parent of 2 young children, I sometimes struggle to have my children doing what I want them to do. When we are late to get to school in the morning and I am trying to make them walk faster, they usually play up more. The more I try to convince them to move, the more stubborn they become. Eventually, it becomes a disastrous morning and they all start crying regardless of my frustration and desperate attempts.

One day, I stopped in a situation like this and started to be curious about it. Then I realised it was actually me who was creating the situation.

When we try to make others do what

Aspire to Wealth

We are here in Sydney, Australia right now. We have had a wonderful weekend with a team of dedicated people from a company that shares the joy of wealth. B1G1 was sponsored to be here this weekend as a part of their event called ‘Aspire to Wealth Weekend’. What do they do?

So, here is one company that dedicates all their time and resources to educate individuals and business people to learn to manage their wealth more effectively by wisely managing their investment. When we get to know some of the fundamental and hidden clues of wealth creation from these experts, we can easily remove the
