Could Buy1GIVE1 help elect Obama?

If you’re like me, you can’t help but get fascinated with the ups and downs of American politics. And, if you’re like me, you were pleased to see Barrack Obama come through as the Democratic candidate.
So what does this have to do with Buy1GIVE1?
Simply this. I was on a plane from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur this morning reading my favourite newspaper (the International Herald Tribune) before take-off and I saw an article about Al Gore endorsing Obama.
My thoughts turned to how Senator Obama had used the World Wide Web (amongst other things) to get donations for his campaign that run right now around US$50 Million.
And then I wondered: what would have happened if he’d done it as a Buy1GIVE1 strategy; perhaps something like, ‘for every dollar you donate, we’ll feed and educate 2 kids for a day in India’. (Doing that costs as little as 4.5 cents a child)
Well, if nothing else, like all great Buy1GIVE1 strategies, it would get him a heap more press PLUS it would further differentiate him. And maybe Senator McCain would follow.
But above all, it would send a signal to millions of people about giving back. Plus, in Senator Obama’s case, it would tie in so wonderfully with his message of CHANGE and his campaign slogan of ‘Yes we can!’
Interesting thought? Let me know your thoughts. And who knows, together we might come up with even more great ideas. Together. As one.
