1 The Man Who Gave 90 Percent
R. G. LeTourneau (1888 – 1969) was a Christian industrialist who dedicated his life to “being a businessman for God.” He was hugely successful, designing and developing his own line of earth-moving equipment.
LeTourneau was the maker of nearly 300 inventions, and had hundreds of patents in his lifetime. As he succeeded financially, he increased his giving to the point where he was giving 90% of his income to the Lord’s work.
I shovel out the money, and God shovels it back—but God has a bigger shovel. – R. G. LeTourneau
You may be thinking, “I could give 90% too if I was a multi-millionaire.” Maybe so, but LeTourneau didn’t start out wealthy.
A gentle challenge: Whatever percentage of your income you are currently giving, make a lifelong plan to bump that percentage with every opportunity.
2 The Poor Widow Whose Giving Impresses Jesus
So check this out! I just wanted to share this awesome story.
My close friend down here in Las Vegas is a wonderful person and a local business owner. He has been in the carpet cleaning business for many many years. Go check his site out at Superior Carpet Cleaners Las Vegas, great company and excellent service. Anyway he prides himself on delivering the best possible cleaning service available. The guy works 16 hours a day 7 days a week trying to make his dream a success. The company has 8 crews and 10 vans packed with carpet cleaning equipment. Need less to say the company is doing well. Bill has also struggled in the past with low points in the growth of his business. His main goal is to build a million dollar cleaning company so he can get very emotional about things. Read more
Buy one, give one:
We all love the idea of buy one, get one but what if instead it was buy one, give one? This would be fabulous way of being able to pay it forward. There are many more ways and opportunities to be able to give online compared to the past ways of donating in a box or mailing in a check. One thing that comes to my mind is maybe you are shopping on the internet. If you are shopping for shoes wouldn’t be nice if you could also by a pair of shoes and shipped to someone less fortunate. People could sign up to be recipients of items they need and then you could choose from the list and send them some much needed shoes. Maybe you are like my friend who owns a towing company (www.vegastowingservice.com) and you could just tow a few cars for free. Read more
The best thing a business can do for it’s customers and community is to offer some form of incentive to help others. I encourage close friends of mine who own businesses to develop great ideas on how to provide value to others that have no relation to the business. I have a couple friends here in Vegas that own businesses, one owns a residential electrical company (www.vegaselectricalservice.com), another owns a landscaping business. My very close friend Hank happens to own a carpet cleaning business here in Vegas and i got talking to him the other day about how he can increase his brand awareness through giving. Read more
The True Way To Give
True giving is derived from the about the same place within you as your truest happiness. They are pretty much woven together and intertwined.
A gift should be something that is enjoyed by both parties involved. Number one by the giver who enjoys the pleasure of giving and then also reveled in by the being who receives the gift.
A very intimate form of giving takes the shape of small, personal acts of kindness. Often it’s not money or belongings that humans need, it’s the things that can’t be seen or touched, such as quality advice, a beautiful kind word, reassuring compliments or a wonderful smile.
The act of giving doesn’t have to be limited to the giving of presents during Xmas time or at Birthday Parties. All of you can treat every person you come into contact with as a person who you can give a gift to. Read more
